Durham Castle Now Holds Civil Ceremonies
Durham Castle, a venue known for its history and its great presence in the heart of County Durham. As one of the North East’s premier wedding venues, it's a magnificent place to hold your wedding reception and enjoy the evening with your guests. Lucky for you this grand location has now taken on the extended role of holding civil ceremonies, opening up an opportunity to spend your entire wedding day living like royalty. Established since the 11th century, the castle has a feel like no other wedding location.
The civil ceremonies, which are non-religious but legally binding, can be held in various locations within Durham University’s sentimental, historic venue. Celebrate your summertime wedding in the beautiful secluded Fellows Garden, or take the occasion indoors to the majestic, atmospheric Norman Gallery. Smaller, more intimate, indoor ceremonies can also be arranged in the Senate Room, Octagon Room or Bishop Suite.
The castle can accommodate both daytime and evening wedding receptions for up to 200 guests, offering an exciting blend of heritage and splendour, superb food and outstanding service all the important aspects to make your day stand out. With only one wedding taking place per day, it gives you and your guests the chance to soak up the experience of living like a king for a full day with no interruptions.
The open day for Durham Castle will be held 7th January 2018, so make sure you attend to find out more about the castle and secure you special day, what better way to start the new year than planning a 'royal wedding?' If you're quick you might even beat Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in tying the knot!
