Venue Love Letters From Our Northern Couples

DATE 19 June 2018

Vows, venues and a whole lot of love. We’ve asked couples from across the region to share with us the reasons behind why they chose their wedding venue…

Rebecca & Jonathan at Lartington Hall

“We knew that we wanted something different from the norm. We wanted exclusivity, tradition, and a style that spoke to classic elegance with a hint of glamour. We knew instantly that Lartington Hall was for us. A personal favourite about the hall was the floor-to-ceiling mirrors and the hand-painted gold columns in the Grand Ballroom… And there’s the checkered tiles in the Grand Corridor, too.

“There’s no other venue in the North East like Lartington Hall. It strikes the perfect balance of traditional and classic elegance, coupled with wonderful food and staff that take great pride in attention to the finest details. It is simply beautiful.”

Kim & Thomas at Acklam Hall

“After growing up in the area, and Acklam Hall having undergone a fabulous restoration, we just felt it was the ideal place for the wedding as it felt more personal to us. Its quirky style seemed to stand out to us from all the other venues.

“We can’t recommend Acklam Hall enough, the staff were so attentive and the wedding team were amazing.”

Olivia & Alex at Brinkburn Priory

“The venue was the first place we looked at, and as soon as we saw the inside of the Priory, we decided that was where we were going to get married. I think we equally loved the Priory and the tipis: we really liked the heritage site, while the tipis made the whole wedding more casual, which is what we wanted.

“We would definitely recommend the venue to other couples. We received a great level of support from the staff, and the caterer the venue recommends was superb.”

Siobhan & Dean at The Vermont Hotel

“We went to an event at The Vermont Hotel not long before we got engaged and I fell in love with the venue then, especially The Sky Lounge. Once we got engaged, I knew exactly where I wanted to get married. I also loved that the venue was in the city centre, making it easy for our guests to get to.

“We had a brilliant day. Our wedding coordinator, Tanya, was fantastic. All the staff were great and the food was wonderful too.”

Lisa & Michael at Wynyard Hall

“We wanted a classic wedding in an authentic, historical building with lots of character and charm. We were also looking for great quality food and service, and Wynyard Hall ticked every box. The building is stunning and full of amazing original features: decorative ceilings, chandeliers, and a fantastic landscape setting. The highlight for us was the terrace overlooking the lake – it was a beautiful setting for our drinks reception.”

Megan & Louis at Black Horse Beamish

“We chose Black Horse Beamish because the Orchard Marquee has such a magical feel to it. Its views across the Beamish Valley are spectacular, and the open feeling inside the marquee is like nowhere we’ve ever been before. It provided a blank canvas for us to create our dream wedding.

“The marquee is self-contained with a bar, kitchen and toilets so everything is taken care of and it was totally exclusive to us. We even got our own garden area to entertain our guests. The grounds stretch over 22 acres of lush green and lavender fields - perfect for the photos!”

Helen & Richard at Matfen Hall

“When we visited Matfen Hall we both knew it was the one. We wanted a classic summer wedding in a venue, which could accommodate all our guests, and Matfen Hall fitted the bill perfectly and meant the celebrations could carry on to the following day, with guests enjoying the hotel’s spa facilities and golf course. We were keen to have the whole day in one location and Matfen Hall made this possible with its beautiful chapel-like Great Hall, which made the ceremony very special.

“We can’t recommend having a wedding coordinator enough. They have invaluable experience and know what works well. For us, it took a lot of stress out of the organising and made planning our day a really fun experience.”

Kirsty & Steven at Hexham Winter Gardens

“We knew we wanted a blank canvas, as we had so many different elements and styles we wanted to incorporate, and it gave us the freedom to do everything we wanted. The Hexham Winter Gardens is just that. It’s basically a glass house giving us light and views of amazing greenery with the amazing Victorian-style pillars giving it that industrial chic feel.

“We highly recommend the venue as you really can transform it into any style. It is a lot of work and takes a lot of vision and faith in yourself and your vendors. An on-the-day coordinator/wedding planner is also a must!”
