How Can You Encounter A Rainy Wedding

DATE 21 November 2018

Your wedding is one of the most anticipated days of your life. You’ve probably already fantasised over every moment — the look on your groom’s face as you walk down the aisle, the way your gown cascades onto the floor, and all your loved ones beaming at you under the sunshine. Unfortunately, as with a lot of life events, not everything goes according to plan. Suddenly, skies turn gloomy and rain starts pouring from the heavens, threatening to ruin your special day.
Rain probably tops the list of every bride’s worst nightmares, but the truth is, rain doesn't signal the end of the world — nor should it dampen your wedding. In fact, it may even make your wedding even more unique and memorable. But to make sure that things turns out well, it’s important to have a contingency plan for weather disturbances when planning your wedding, especially if your venue is outdoors. That said, here are some things to take note of in order to make sure the rain doesn’t spoil your special moments.
How Can You Counter A Rainy Wedding

Plan For Shelter Or A Back-Up Venue

When choosing a location, make sure that the area has a designated back-up to move to, should it start pouring. Venues such as Lumley Castle, for example, have beautiful gardens that can accommodate your dream garden wedding. What's more, they also have equally stunning indoor areas where guests can transfer to in case of rain.

Consider Tents

If your location can’t accommodate a back-up venue, perhaps look into setting up tents. Be on the lookout for those that offer affordable services, such as TipiChic. Not only will these shield your guests from the rain, but tents can also keep them from burning under the afternoon sun.

Weather-Proof Your Look

The last thing you want on your big day is mascara running down your face. To combat this, Jennifer Jane recommends investing in waterproof make-up that won’t budge under pressure. Pick products that are also built to withstand humidity, sweat, and oil — which makes them good investments, come what may.
Of course, don’t forget your hair. Lisa Jones suggests not relying on products like hair spray alone, but to choose styles that won’t fall flat as soon as it gets wet. A messy bun, for instance, is low maintenance and can be fixed in an instant. Similarly, a sleek ponytail does not require too much product or pins just to hold it. With hairdos like these, you won’t have to worry about your hair looking off or messy in photos.

Secure Your Photographer

It can be trickier to shoot in the rain, but you’ll still want every moment to be documented. Talk to your photographer to check that they have a back-up plan in case of rain. Ensure they’ve got gear that’s prepared to get down and dirty if needed.

Stay Positive

Ultimately, how you and your groom will react is what will set the tone for the celebration. Take for example the newlyweds Jemma Swainston-Rainford and Steven Lucock, who made headlines recently when their big day faced the wrath of a snowstorm. Their solution? Make an incredible photo opportunity out of it. Sure enough, the results were a unique winter wonderland take on a beautiful wedding. According to photographer Sean Elliott, the 'Beast from the East' stood no chance against “the determination of the couple and the love they share.” Undoubtedly, the couples' perspective also made a world of difference to the turnout. “The weather didn’t hit us, it joined us for a special day," quipped the groom.
