2021 Trends: Our Guest List Creatives Share Their Predictions for 2021 Weddings

DATE 18 October 2020

As the restrictions keep on coming and the light at the end of the tunnel is dimming as the days pass, it can be easy to give up hope.
But while 2020 may be a write off for weddings, there’s still so much to look forward to for next year, with a whole host of new, exciting trends in fashion, styling and events as a whole coming to the fore.
We’ve enlisted the help of our trusty #guestlist creatives to share their thoughts and predictions on what brides can come to expect from weddings in 2021.
From intimate elopements to sleeve-tastic style, these predictions are a welcome bit of hope that things can only get better – and a whole lot more beautiful…
Roll on the new year.

Your Day, Your Way

"2021 says mix it all up. Sleeves, drama, undone beauty and being the very best version of you.

Helen Russell Photography for Belle Bridal AW20

In AW20, we showcased this beautifully in our exclusive editorial at Rudding Park Chapel – a tale of two eras, the unapologetically fashion-forward gowns of Bowen Dryden set against the stunningly historic aesthetic of Rudding Park Chapel, one of the UK’s most beautiful ceremony spaces, showing that you can always do your wedding your way.”

Micro Marriages

“Due to the current restrictions, I believe elopements will grow in 2021, especially in England. With stunning settings available from the Lake District to Northumberland couples will choose to spend the day in the wilderness, just the two of them.”
Scott Carney Photography

“The micro wedding trend will continue into 2021, and small luxe intimate weddings will remain popular. The guest experience has been a major focus for couples, they want to spend quality time with the most important people in their lives, show their love and gratitude for them, by making them feel extra special.”

Sleeve Style

“Sleeves are definitely on-trend for 2021 wedding gowns, whether it's a dress with sleeves built-in, or a dress with the option of a bolero jacket with sleeves to wear over a dress.”
– Bijou Bridal Boutique

Sublime gown, Nicola Anne, with the Honey Shrug

“I’m starting to see more creativity with the options coming through with sleeves with structured shoulders, puff shoulders and sleeves using cuffs, bells and contrasting materials to the main gown for example an organza sleeve on a crepe gown.”
Ellison Gray Bridal

“In our boutique next year you’ll find LOTS of sleeves – from full floating lace sleeves, crepe fitted sleeves and organic lace to illusion long sleeves and detachables. Detachable capes are also set to be a big hit – giving two looks for one day, they’re perfect for a bride that doesn’t want a veil.”

Black is Back

“Forget white wedding dresses – black is the new in colour for next year and beyond. We are working hard on our own black wedding gown design – one of our brides has already said yes to the sketch! We will also focus on the minimalist designs for the new year.”
– Miss He Bridal

“2021 is the year for the dusky pinks to make way for bolder hues like black, navy, burgundy and emerald edging their way in. Monochrome designs and white space, combining minimalism with textures, bright bold colours, white ink and of course foil.”
Victoria’s Paperie

Adaptable Attire

“I predict we are going to see lots of inspiration from the iconic 70s’ era, and gowns that can be adaptable and interchangeable in accordance to changes in wedding plans.”
Elizabeth Lucas Bridal

Bonnie, Willowby Brides

“Day-to-night is really exciting. I’m lucky to have designers that offer so many options for our brides to create bespoke looks that can be transformed simply by removing or adding an overlay, cuff, sleeve, bow or cape – essentially giving brides two looks for their big day.”
Ellison Gray Bridal

"Versatility in bridal gowns will be huge for 2021 - think detachable overskirts, tulle capes and wings… Iconic styles which give you two totally different looks in one day. Think soft romantic flowing skirt for the daytime and sleek fitted sass for the eve of your celebrations."

Super Staycations

“Next year will see the rise of bad and bouji staycations for hens, with picture-perfect balloon backdrops. Intimate and romantic ceremonies and receptions will also prosper, with extravagance that Gossip Girl's Upper East Siders would be proud of!”
