Meet the Florist...
In the lead up to Mother's Day, it's no surprise that flowers are the talking point of the Belle Blog this week...
But with so many florists to pick from, how do you know which business to buy your bouquet of love from?
We've got an array of fabulous florists on our Supplier Guest List, and Purple Haze in Otterburn, Northumberland, is amongst the best – offering fresh, fine florals designed with your matriarch (or your wedding theme!) in mind.
We spoke to passionate owner Diane, to get to the root of what makes her beautiful business bloom.
Tell us a little bit about your journey into floristry?
I almost just fell into floristry, my background was in banking and I studied Chemistry at University but I’ve always been creative and I had a strong desire to work for myself.
I enrolled on a course at my local college to learn the basics in floristry as it had caught my eye and I was hooked. I opened my first shop the day after completing the course and my first customer was a wedding client!
Describe your style...
I definitely think my style is natural and quite organic, I love movement and space within my designs, the way flowers would be in nature.
What areas do you cover geographically?
I cover the whole of the North East and Cumbria and up to the Scottish Borders, being Scottish myself I will take any excuse to venture North.
I have weddings this year in The Lake District for the first time which I am really excited about.
What are your key products for 2021?
I have a love for large installations so I have been building on my collection recently of frames and metalwork and also some gorgeous faux flowers and foliage and these will feature heavily throughout 2021.
We are getting lots of enquiries for our moon gates, archways and unstructured columns so definitely lots of big blousy arrangements.

Anything you’d love to see less of in wedding floristry (any pet hates?)
I wouldn’t say there is anything I would like to see less of but I would definitely love to see more colour in wedding flowers.
I adore simple and elegant designs and classic whites and greens are stunning, but when a client is bold in their colour choices and is aiming for something more visually striking, that is what I love!
Any new trends for 2021 you would like to share with us?
I think a lot of us have changed the way we buy throughout lockdown and are focusing on buying local and buying British, I think British grown flowers will continue to be a big hit in 2021.
I think we may see a return to more traditional weddings too, with statement floral arches outside churches and aisles lined with flowers.
Describe your dream bouquet and favourite blooms...
My absolute love has to be Hydrangeas, especially in blues and purples, I love their delicate little petals up close but when you zoom out you have this big blousy flower head, so these would be included in my dream bouquet, lots of flowing seasonal foliage with these big beautiful hydrangea.
Purple Haze are now taking bookings for Mother's Day bouquet deliveries around the North East – but be quick, there's limited availability!
