To celebrate the opening of The Pele Corbridge launch event yesterday, the 14th century building was lit up with a lumiere show bringing the building alive with light as well as images of past and present. Over 200 people attended the event which marked the official opening of the tower as a private events venue.
Restoration work on the Vicars Pele Tower in Corbridge market place is now complete. This 14th Century, grade I listed national monument has been transformed by new owners Shaun & Jane Cutler who were recently nominated for an Historic Angel Award.

The new owners worked closely with Historic England and Spence & Dower Architects in ensuring that the restoration did not detract from the character and heritage of the building. A bat survey and archaeological dig were among the preservation assessments carried out. Work within the building included the installation of a steel & glass gallery to the previously missing 3rd floor as well as bringing heat, light and water to the tower.
“We are delighted to have completed the first phase of the project…the next challenge is to bring the Pele tower alive again with a range of exclusive and intimate events. It’s a stunning building with a huge amount of atmosphere."

The restoration has transformed the Grade 1 listed building into a historic and intimate
licensed venue for private hire functions and unique events throughout the year. The Pele also has a wedding license and can boast that it is among the oldest civil ceremony venue in the country.
With a maximum capacity of 50, the Pele tower is an intimate venue and perfect for many occasions from product launches to Christmas parties. The venue retains almost all of its original features and character and as such, sensible footwear is advised!

The hope is that The Pele will become host to a series of exclusive and intimate events from Champagne and cocktail nights to product launches and private parties. It is undoubtedly a unique venue with over 700 years of history.
Events scheduled for 2016 include a Supper at the Pele evening in conjunction with Vallum, A Champagne and Fizz night and A Gin tasting night in conjunction with Bin21.
