Northumberland’s newest and exclusive wedding and events venue, Charlton Hall, is hosting a whimsical wedding event this weekend, following a year of renovation to transform the Grade II stately residence into a venue filled with contemporary design and art.
Dubbed ‘Britain’s funkiest stately home’ by the Sunday Times, Charlton Hall will be hosting a wedding event to showcase the hall’s spectacular design, whilst playing host to the region’s most creative wedding specialists, in an event that will entertain with live music, theatrical characters, taster cocktails and canapes.

The event is being held on 10th June 2018, between 12pm – 3pm at Charlton Hall in Chathill, Alnwick on its private 150-acre, surrounded by uninterrupted coastal country views.
Charlton Hall, which dates back to 1780, is a former family home steeped in history. The grade II listed hall was originally home to Alnwick’s oldest solicitor and had been in the Thorpe family for generations, prior to its new owner, Richard Shell, (who also owns the wedding venue, Doxford Barns), taking ownership of the property.
Shell’s plans for bringing Charlton Hall back into use centre on creating a luxurious venue filled with bold interior design, with décor by renowned artists and designers including Vanessa Foley, Lynsey Jean Henderson, Tom Dixon, Matthew Williamson, Diane von Furstenberg, Mulberry and House of Hackney, to name but a few.
Shell says: “After a year of meticulous planning and renovations, we are finally ready to show off Charlton Hall. We have lovingly restored this property by enhancing traditional features and mixing antiques with modern furnishings.

“Charlton Hall is our second wedding venue, which follows in the footsteps of Doxford Barns. Doxford Barns consistently receives 5-star customer ratings, which we aim to bring to Charlton Hall, led by our passion for delivering exceptional wedding experiences, coupled with unrivalled food and drink using local produce.”
The whimsical wedding event will give guests the opportunity to view Charlton Hall as a potential wedding venue, as well as the opportunity to meet some of the region’s most creative wedding specialists, who will each take over various suites throughout the hall and fill them with inspirational wedding ideas.
Shell continues: “Our vision is for guests to leave Charlton Hall feeling inspired and excited about the possibilities open for their big day, whilst being one of the first to visit our venue."

During the day, guests will be treated to a host of canapes and taster cocktails, provided for by Charlton Hall’s chef and team of mixologists who are renowned for their innovative and experimental approach to food and drink.
Entertainment will include live performances by sought-after music acts [courtesy of AMV Live Music] as well as a DJ playing a set-list in the bar, covering everything from classic to modern hits.
Charlton Hall can cater for large wedding parties of up to 120 guests for a formal seated reception, following a ceremony either at the lake or in the converted art deco ceremony hall.
Charlton Hall officially opens in July 2018 and is available for exclusive use, from weddings to private events and celebrations.
