Where to Get Married on the Amalfi Coast

DATE 29 May 2020

For most brides to be, 2020 has brought a devastating demise to wedding preparations and many have seen their plans come to a crashing halt altogether.
But, as the light at the end of the covid crisis draws ever closer, we can begin letting our imaginations run a little freer – and ours are sprinting full-tick towards the Amalfi Coast.

The main surge in Southern Italy’s ever-strengthening draw and a magnet for modern day tourists, this famous coastline is home to some of Italy’s most romantic venues, all perfectly perched amongst a beautiful coast of rugged cliffs and sandy coves.
From open-air terraces overlooking the panoramic coastline to ornate Italian cloisters dressed with white florals, there’s simply no beating this blissful, hibiscus-strewn oasis for a wedding to remember.

We’re talking toasting to the newly-weds with the bay of Positano at your feet, or dancing the night away beneath the stars in a 14th-century fairy-lit cloister – those once in a lifetime places that, albeit seem a world away right now, may be closer than you think.
Here we uncover the best spots to tie the knot on the Amalfi Coast.
Happy reading, lovers.

Maiori

Celebrate your civil wedding in the frescoed ceremonial parlour of the 18th century 'Palazzo', or opt for a religious ceremony in one of the town’s ornate churches. Magical Maiori also boasts a historical Norman watch tower jutting out over the sea, a Michelin-star restaurant in a superb position and an open-fronted hotel terrace with unbelievable sea views, perfect for your wedding reception.
Where to Wed: Ristorane Torre Normana on the rocks of Maiori is the perfect place to celebrate in style. Host a multi-course banquet on The Bellavista Terrace, complete with panoramic sea views and beautifully decorated tables.
Belle Loves: This popular tourist resort has the longest unbroken stretch of beach on the Amalfi coastline – the perfect place to walk off those bellinis from the night before.

Positano

The well-known postcard town with that unmistakeable Insta-worthy backdrop, Positano is the pinnacle of wedding locations. Hold an open-air ceremony in the townhall, with its very own terrace providing panoramic views across the town and out to sea, before dancing beneath the stars with your nearest and dearest.
Where to Wed: Hotel Marincanto offers romance like no other. Set amidst the spectacular horizon between sea and sky, hire out their private 18th century villa for an intimate ceremony on the terrace.
Belle Loves: The Amalfi Drive – an iconic corniche with epic coastal views – makes for a sensational post-ceremony road trip.

Ravello

Romantic Ravello with its luxurious gardens, enchanting villas and stunning views is the perfect location for an outdoor civil ceremony. Austere or ornate churches provide an unforgettable religious ceremony and, as this town is perched 365 meters above the coast, spectacular views are guaranteed. Cameras at the ready!
Where to Wed: Villa Eva boasts the highest point in Ravello and is an esteemed wedding venue, offering spellbinding views of the coast below. Oh, and its surrounded by 3,000sqm of woodland.
Belle Loves: Book your big day in line with the popular summertime Ravello festival and spend your first married moments dancing to live Italian Jazz at dusk…

Sorrento

A lively town with lots to offer, Sorrento is the perfect place to gather the family for a memorable marriage. You can have a legal civil ceremony with a religious feel in the 14th century S. Francesco Cloisters – a peaceful, romantic open-air garden encircled by baroque arches. Alternatively, opt for a symbolic ceremony in one of the beautiful villas around town.
Where to Wed: The Castore Restaurant, set in the midst of the green hills of the Sorrento Peninsula, marries beautiful scenery with delectable dining.
Belle Loves: Indulge in artisanal Italian pizza and gelato at Piazza Tasso – a gorgeous café-lined square in Sorrento’s centre (only after you’ve slipped into your dress!)

Erchie

This picturesque hamlet and quaint fishing village with an imposing medieval watch tower overlooking the sea will make all your wedding dreams come true. There are plenty of large open terraces for an elaborate open-air reception and, if you wish, a romantic symbolic ceremony. You and your guests can take the short picturesque walk along the beach, or experience the awe-inspiring sights from the boat as you sail into shore.
Where to Wed: Torre La Cerniola is a building dating back to 1532 that rises majestically on the cliff, making for a sumptuous wedding venue.
Belle Loves: Erchie is off-the-beaten-track and has a population of just 83, making it the perfect venue for an intimate, exclusive wedding without the tourists.
