Since opening in September of this year, this bridal haven has delivered a stunning edition to the quaint streets of Langley Moor in Durham. With slick and stylish branding adoring the outside of the spacious boutique, to an interior fitting for the luxury bridal labels which grace it, it’s a must visit for any bride on her dream dress hunt. Founding owner Caroline prides herself on the exclusivity of the boutique and the service she delivers to every bride that enters.
We paid her a visit to see what’s on offer for brides at this brand-new boutique, from the delicate little details to the full browsing experience.
The Introduction
When brides enter Ellison Gray Bridal, they can expect to be met with warmth and luxury.
As the boutique is appointment-only, a blackboard at the door with your name on welcomes you in before Caroline takes to her starring role.
Being the sole staff member at Ellison Gray, and the fact there is only ever one bride in the boutique at a time, Caroline is able to offer each and every bride her full undivided attention – giving you complete exclusivity.
Following formalities – giving Caroline your bag and jacket to hang up, being offered a hot drink (dependant on government regulations) and some slippers – you will be taken through to the beautiful bridal studio.
Greys complimented with pale pinks and stunning crisp white roses adorn this fresh and modern space. With a crushed velvet sofa, opulent furnishings and huge ornate-style mirror, brides are made to feel completely at ease as they prepare to embark on their dress journey.
As we enter, the sun shines through the windows onto the bridal podium which has pride of place in the centre of the studio – almost as if it were a spotlight ready to greet its next leading lady…
The Consultation
Brides and their guest are invited to take a seat for an in-depth consultation with Caroline.
Although she will have spoken to you before your appointment, Caroline takes this opportunity to discover each brides’ individual style, preferences and theme for their big day.
“I like to sit and have a chat with the brides and their guest, really getting to know them and helping them feel comfortable.
From where she’s getting married and who she’s getting married to, to what style of gown she likes and what brought her to my boutique, all of these things matter and will help me find her dream dress.” – Caroline
The Collection
Once you’ve had a chat, it’s time to get to business.
Utilising her wealth of expertise in gown design and industry knowhow, Caroline will hand-pick two or three dresses she thinks you’ll like.
Whether it’s showing you the corsetry and delicate detailing or discussing the designer and their brand, brides can expect to gain every insight into the dresses they are shown, helping them distinguish whether or not it’s the one for them.
You are also invited to browse the immaculate rails that line both sides of this bright and modern studio for yourself.
Boasting a whole host of luxury labels, from British bridal powerhouses Lyn Ashworth England and Suzanne Neville – both of whom this boutique holds exclusive North East stockist status for – to world-renowned designer Sottero & Midgley, Caroline has harnessed her passion for bridal fashion to create a diverse collection of state-of-the-art gowns, catering for all styles of bride.
The Catwalk
You’ll then be invited to try your favourites on in true Ellison Gray style.
The large private changing room boasts thick carpets and draped curtains, allowing you to feel completely at ease as you slip in and out of your could-be dream dresses.
Once on, you’ll walk down the lovely walkway up to the bridal podium, where your reflection in the mirror is hopefully one you’ll fall in love with.
With gentle guidance from Caroline, and the all-important feedback from your special guest, brides can decide whether they want to try different fits and accessories – of which there’s a huge range at this boutique.
Beautiful bespoke headpieces and accessories from Inna Walker and quality luxury veils from Joyce Jackson are available to try on at your leisure, and Caroline is as clued up on these finishing touches as she is the gown you’re wearing.

Lyn Ashworth – a name synonymous with flair and finish – is the headline act at Ellison Gray, not only for the graceful designs, but for the connection the boutique has with them.

The Conclusion
