With the latest season of Bridgerton reigniting our obsession with Regency romance, it’s no surprise that weddings are following suit. What began as a television phenomenon has evolved into a fully-fledged wedding trend - and the numbers back it up.

Hitched recently reported a year-on-year spike in search volume of over 190% for “Bridgerton weddings”, while Pinterest has seen searches for the theme rise by 257%.

Escapism, elegance and a sense of occasion

At its heart, the Bridgerton aesthetic offers something many couples are craving right now: romance, theatre and a sense of grandeur. Soft pastel palettes, sweeping staircases, layered floral installations, candlelit ceremonies that feel almost cinematic.

“There’s a definite appetite for escapism,” says Georgia Packer, Wedding Planner at the House of St John’s in Bath. “Couples want romance, beauty and a real sense of occasion. Bridgerton gives them permission to go all in - to embrace elegance and drama without holding back.”

Music has become part of the mood too, with live string musicians performing modern songs in a classical style - a subtle nod to the soundtrack that helped define the series.

Why authentic Georgian architecture matters

While some venues are styling themselves around the trend, others already have the foundations in place.

In Bath - one of the most complete Georgian cities in the UK - Regency architecture isn’t a backdrop added for effect, it’s built into the fabric of the city. With sweeping crescents, honey-coloured stone and formal squares, Bath feels naturally aligned with the aesthetic that Bridgerton has popularised.

Set on Queen Square, the House of St John’s dates back nearly 300 years and offers couples original Georgian proportions, grand staircases and period detailing that require very little “dressing” to achieve the look.

“We’re seeing couples actively seek out venues with genuine history,” Packer explains. “There’s depth and character you can’t recreate. The building does a lot of the work for you.”

The venue has recently welcomed couples travelling all the way from Tasmania to marry there, drawn specifically to its old-English atmosphere and central Bath setting.

Regency romance without the royal budget

While the visual impact may feel indulgent, Bridgerton-inspired weddings don’t have to mean royal spending.

Packer notes that many couples are opting for intimate guest lists, investing in key moments - such as statement florals or live musicians - while allowing the architecture to provide the grandeur.

“It’s about balance,” she says. “You don’t need to replicate a palace. Choosing a venue with existing character means you can focus on atmosphere rather than scale.”

With packages starting from £1,998, venues like the House of St John’s are demonstrating that Regency romance can be both aspirational and accessible.

A trend with staying power

Some wedding trends arrive and disappear within a season. Regency romance feels different. Its appeal lies not just in its visual beauty, but in what it represents: celebration, indulgence and a return to meaningful ceremony.

As audiences continue to immerse themselves in Bridgerton’s world of candlelight and courtship, it seems couples are keen to bring a little of that magic into real life - and in cities like Bath, the setting is already waiting.
