Russian-born designer Olia Zavozina creates her stunning bridal gowns from her studio in Nashville, Tennesse, after moving to America to persure her dream of bridal design at the tender age of 18. Today, Olia is now an internationally renowned designer with boutiques across the US and gowns available to buy online via Nordstrom.
Tell us about your own wedding…What advice would you give to brides-to-be?
“My advice to all brides-to-be is to enjoy the day wholeheartedly. If I could change something, I would use the mantra ‘less is more’. I loved my wedding day but sometimes it’s better to let the small stuff go and just enjoy marrying your best friend. Less opinions, less people, less stress!”
What is the ‘secret sauce’ to a life full of love?
“Stay real with each other. Always be the person that you really are. Don’t pretend to be who or what you think you should be in the moment. Nothing is more important than being real to each other. And to always love today for what it is, you never know when that might change.”
What is one thing that brides need that they often forget?
“My brides usually forget their garter. It’s an age old tradition that, these days, sometimes gets forgotten.”
Your gowns are certainly for the fashion-forward and trendy bride. Are there any bridal trends that you don’t rate?
“I am not too keen on the whole ‘trashing the dress’ concept. I know that probably doesn’t seem strange coming from a bridal designer but it’s just so heartbreaking to me to think that you may not have something to pass on, to show your children or even grandchildren. No, they probably won’t wear your dress but we do so many custom things with pieces and parts of mothers’ and grandmothers’ gowns and when you trash your dress that just won’t be possible.” (We agree!)
We would love to hear whats next for the Olia Zavozina brand! ( expansion to UK boutiques?!)
“The brand is growing every single day. We have amazing brides, amazing boutiques, and an amazing team. It’s only going up from here. And who knows- we may be international very soon…”
