Look no further than The Little Kendal Cakery: a contemporary-chic cake design company based in the heart of the ultra-scenic Lake District. Kelly, the baker extraordinaire behind this sophisticated sweet spot, is all about clean lines, simplicity and a fine-art finish.

From subtle semi-naked icing and floral arrangements to gold-foil marbling, ombre tones, geometric patterns and delicate lace embossing. And that’s just the wedding cakes – stylish sugar cookies, macarons and cake pops are available as favours to complement the main event. Consider. Us. Obsessed.

But when it comes to the crumbs inside, the flavour options are almost endless: dark chocolate and caramel, Limoncello drizzle, strawberry and Champagne and banana choc chip are just a small selection of the light sponges, dense cakes, fluffy buttercreams and refreshing curds on offer.

I’m not drooling, you’re drooling.

Sure, these cakes look too good to eat, but don’t be fooled by those gilded edges and precise icing. Taste is paramount at Kelly’s cakery, and we think Prue would deem these layers of sumptuous sponge as being very much worth the calories.

Only the finest ingredients go into these patisserie masterpieces – think real English butter, free-range eggs, Madagascan bourbon vanilla and couverture Belgian chocolate. A silky white chocolate ganache coats each and every cake layer, before Swiss-made sugar paste is laid on top.

Recipe for Success

Kelly likes to meet her couples in person, especially if you’re opting for a fully-iced bake, as a design consultation is necessary – feel free to bring along tonal swatches, Pinterest boards and any relevant stationery. Once sure that she’s available in the run-up to your wedding date, Kelly will work her magic on a design sketch and quote for you to take away.

Now comes the fun bit: you can order a selection box of your six chosen flavours to sample for £25 – after all, it pays to make a fully informed decision. While prices vary widely due to the nature of bespoke baked goods, they start at £395 for a three-tier construction, while edible favours start from £2.50 per cupcake.

It’s advised that you book six-to-nine months ahead, with a final follow up a couple of months before the big day to confirm your order details and final payments.

Incredible service and the most glorious wedding cake. Kelly sent us cake samples in the post so we could have our own tating sesh. We couldn't make up our mind so we went with 2 flavours in the end - sticky toffee (my fave) and white choc and raspberry (my husband's fave). We served the cake as the dessert at our wedding breakfast and the guests absolutely loved it. With over 200 guests, Kelly had to make extra kitchen portions, but she took the scale of the job in her stride and friends and family still talk about how stunning the cake was.

Kelly at The Little Kendal Cakery is a bit of a genius. She provided a 3 tier wedding cake for our day with a simple swirled buttercream icing. Everyone loves cake but all 3 flavours were absolutely delicious (the sticky toffee cheesecake layer in particular was quite special). We refused to throw any away so spent the following week feeding it to anyone who would eat it! We liked Kelly at our first tasting when she gave us 4 big slabs of cake each to try, and we loved her when we saw and tasted the wedding cake on the day! She was flexible with the flavours, made it exactly the way we had discussed, and worked really well with our florist and venue decorator to perfect the finishing touches.
