Industry Icons: Jo Leversuch

Having honed her craft under the watchful eye of international make up artists, Jo Leversuch has grown to become one of the country’s top catwalk MUAs, painting many a famous face and transforming the confidence of brides in one fell brush stroke.

We sat down with the widely-regarded ‘queen of skin’ and globe-trotting catwalk MUA to discover the magic of her craft…

Tell us a little about the service you offer to brides Jo…

I’m known as the ‘Queen of skin’. This is down to having a font of knowledge in the fashion industry and knowing what style of makeup suits each bride and their skin type. I want to make sure she still looks like herself – enhancing her own individual beauty for the biggest day of her life.

Describe your ultimate big day bridal look?

A natural beauty using the best products available. For skin care, Bioderma Micellar water is great; for skin base, Marc Jacob’s glow stick glistening illuminator; and for eyes, anything from Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk range.

What is your favourite bridal brand and why?

Halfpenny London. Kate’s dresses are just so fashionable and individual.

How long do you stay with the bridal party on the big day?

Until the bride is fully dressed and ready to leave for the ceremony. I will also come back on an evening too if they want me to create a second makeup look.

What has 2020 taught you?

To slow down and appreciate the little things. As a workaholic, it can be difficult to switch off, but this year has taught me that family life is much more important than the business. That being said, I’m also making some exciting future plans… all will be revealed soon.

What was the last random act of kindness you witnessed?

My neighbour bought me flowers to repay me for food shopping for her throughout lockdown.

A quote that you live your life by…

In the end we only regret the chances we didn’t take.

If you could only have one makeup product for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Cream blusher. It’s my go-to for gorgeous lips, eyes and cheeks.
