BOHO GROOVY GLAMOUR AT DOXFORD BARNS
JEN & MICK
With a slow-burn love story that began in high school (“he was in the year above and always had a soft spot for me,” Jen reveals), this couple was made for the long haul. “It was only after I went to university that Mick said he couldn’t wait any longer, and was leaving for Australia – it’s eight years since I followed him out there.” And if that story isn’t romantic enough for you, readers, Mick popped the question under a wishing tree in Dubai. Sigh…
While a life down under called for these lovers, home is still where the heart is – and so a wedding surrounded by their loved ones in the north-east was always on the cards. With a fortnight back in the UK to get the wedmin underway, Jen zeroed in her dream venue immediately: “Doxford Barns was the only venue we looked at, and it was exactly what we wanted.” In spite of this decisive bride’s superior organisational skills, the one thing she couldn’t have counted on was a global pandemic. Nonetheless, after four date cancellations, almost three years out of the country and one theme change, this perfect summer celebration went ahead exactly to plan.

“WITH LIVING IN AUSTRALIA, WE KNEW WE WANTED OUR DAY AT HOME IN FRONT OF OUR LOVED ONES. IT FELT LIKE IT WOULDN’T HAPPEN AT TIMES, BUT WE HUNG IN THERE AND IT WAS ALL WORTH IT.”
JEN, THE BRIDE

The easy-breezy vibe of the Northumberland barn base was ideal for the pair’s low-key Oz-inspired nuptials, offering a perfect backdrop for their boho décor choices, from walls lined with twinkly fairy lights to the incredible Whole Sch-Bang dried floral arrangements. With all of their guests in one place, the lovers tied the knot in the atmospheric Threshing Hall, before setting the day’s vibes with a reception toast in the courtyard, soundtracked by saxophonist, Faye Donaldson. Exquisite dining in the Great Hall followed (“everyone raved about the food,” Jen says), leading onto a night of throwing shapes and loving life. “It was quite emotional at points, being able to share this special day after so long,” she smiles, “but it was also great to be able to party again!”
Jen’s five-strong bride tribe looked heavenly in uber-glam nude Silk Fred maxi dresses. Shimmer on, ladies!

Jen wore a Rosa Clarà dress and a floor-length veil from Y.A.P Bridal, accessorised with Gucci shoes, Astrid & Miyu earrings and a Swarovski bracelet.
