REAL WEDDING

READ THE ROMANCE...

School sweethearts, wild romantics turned boyfriend and girlfriend after the fateful question was asked while stood outside their local butchers, Finola and Jonathan always looked destined to make the aisle.

Luckily, his more important next question was posed in a prettier setting, in Playa Blanca on an evening walk down the marina. Their wedding planning journey began in 2018 but it was anything but plain sailing, as after finding and booking their venue, they were told it would not be reopening for weddings after the pandemic – their day was off.

But as if by fate, Finola came across Charlton Hall during a late night Instagram search and got in touch. Thankfully they had one Sunday in September left, and despite living two and a half hours away, the distinctive luxe aesthetic and Northumbrian tranquility of the venue stole their hearts.

WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE CONCEPT THAT CHARLTON HALL WAS A PURPOSE-BUILT WEDDING VENUE. IT IS QUIRKY, MODERN AND FIT TO HOST A PARTY TO REMEMBER. THERE’S NO PLACE QUITE LIKE IT.

Gatsby Glamour

Taking heed of the eclecticism that Charlton Hall encourages, Finola and Jonathan decided on a glam theme throughout with nods to a 1920s’ Jazz era – with natural flourishes of modernity.

Black napkins, charger plates, gold candelabras with black floating candles and small hydrangea bracts floating in a low glass design, black and white balloons, entertainment coming in the form of a magician and casino tables – it was the subtly stylish art deco-inspired shindig Finola had dreamt of.

The room? Charlton Hall's inspired Looking Glass – a glass-encased space affording sprawling views across the countryside and all the luxe details and party prowess inside.

In the way of attire this couple dressed to impress. Jonathan gave Leonardo a run for his money in a sleek stylish black and white Ted Baker tux, while Finola was a vision of bridal beauty in her Milla Nova showstopper from Guest List boutique, Si… Bridal.

WHEN ELSE CAN YOU GET AWAY WITH DRESSING AS A PRINCESS? I’D NEVER SEEN A GOWN LIKE IT. I WORKED WITH THE LADIES AT SI TO MAKE SOME SLIGHT ALTERNATIONS TO MAKE IT MORE ‘ME’ AND IT REALLY WAS THE MOST MAGICAL DRESS.

Q&A

How did you feel as you walked down the aisle?

So emotional. As soon as I saw all my family and Jonny smiling down the aisle at me all those nerves slipped away. I’d love to have that moment again with my dad, it was special.

Funniest memory from the day?

All of Jonny’s mates bringing blow up inflatable instruments, fluorescent wings and even a child’s scooter out on the dance floor. Totally bonkers but it fitted the venue so well!

And the most special?

Finally hearing the words “you are now husband and wife” after 10 years of being together.
