Rachel and Richard encountered a bit of a false start when they first met during training for swimming nationals, but on the 23rd September 2017, debuting an elegant Atelier Pronovias gown and a dapper suit, waist coat and tie, this competitive couple decided to ditch their swimwear and join lanes when they said “I do” at St Gabriel’s Church, followed by a gorgeous barn celebration at Healey Barn.

“We both used to swim nationally and after a few years of, my now husband, trying to drown me in training yet failing to succeed, I think he eventually thought; 'If I can’t kill her off, then perhaps she is a good egg!'”.

The subtle blue and white hues in the backdrop of Healey Barn, in which Rachel and Richard had their reception, created an understated elegance captured by Amy Lou Photography. “We couldn’t have chosen anyone more wonderful! She captured a wonderful array of relaxed and natural photos in a discrete fashion which was exactly what we asked for.”

“Healey Barn was the only venue we actually viewed in person, but it didn’t take us long to decide! We loved how original the venue was and fitted in perfectly with our wedding style. We couldn’t recommend it enough – Leanne, who we dealt with in the lead up was fantastic  - nothing was ever a bother and she ensured the day ran issue free! As for the food – so many guests said it was the best food they’ve ever had at a wedding!”

Any funny stories from the wedding?

"The day after the wedding my dad and four of his mates went up to the venue to clear all of our belongings….my husband got a call not long after to say all the flowers for the wedding that day had also been cleared! How 4 men did not engage their brains to realise we wouldn’t be needing 10 button holes or a brides bouquet the day after I do not know! Thankfully we were able to send them back in a taxi so the poor bride didn’t go without."

What was your highlight of the day?

"Neither of us can pick a particular moment – the whole day was everything we imagined and more!"

Advice for other brides and grooms?

"Do not send your dad to clear the venue the following day! Plus of course, enjoy the day and make sure you spend time with each other."
