REAL WEDDING

LOVE'S YOUNG DREAM...

As we head into winter there’s no wedding more fitting to bring some bright sunshine-y love into your life. Inspired by their lifelong adoranzie for Italy, a place they visit together every year, Lois and Greg brought Sorrento to the Secret Tower in Newcastle with an incredible Amalfi-themed setting to rival that of a daydream scene from Mama Mia – without the cheese. Lemons, yellows, greens and crisp whites, their fantasy was brought to life by none other than Peony and Gold, the expert floral stylists on our Guest List, while the couple dazzled in fashion-forward outfits.  Bellissimo!

The Story Starts…

Greg being from Yorkshire and Lois, by admission a ‘staunch Geordie through and through’, this pair first crossed paths while studying the same degree in Newcastle. They began dating just prior to their graduation and as they say, the rest is history. With annual trips to Sorrento becoming somewhat of a romance ritual for the couple, it wasn’t surprising to find that Greg popped the question in their special place, five years after they’d first started dating.

And as far as proposals go this one will take some living up to.

WE WALKED THROUGH THE FLORAL ARCHWAYS OF THE SPRAWLING HOTEL GROUNDS, BEAUTIFULLY LIT IN THE WARM NIGHT AIR. WE REACHED THE POOL, LOOKED OUT AT THE SILHOUETTE OF THE BAY OF NAPLES, AND THEN GREG TURNED TO ME AND KNELT ON ONE KNEEE. THE REST WAS A PERFECT BLUR.

A Sicilian Secret

Lois and Greg had always dreamt of an Italy wedding but with Covid restrictions making it an impossibility, they had to find somewhere closer to home that could feed their subtle Sicilian, dolce vita vision.

Step up The Secret Tower in Newcastle, a minimal, elegant venue perfect for this pair’s laidback affair to take shape. From the natural light-flooded White Room, dressed gorgeously with green foliage and lemons running across the table, to the beautiful apple orchard where guests gathered and sipped, this was a sensationally stylish celebration befitting of two romantics with a clear eye for dreamy aesthetics.

 BELLE LOVES: Rolo the Romantic

What a handsome hound… Lois and Greg’s beloved daschund Rolo took centre stage on the big day dressed in an ultra suave tux.

The Gown

With a specific vision in mind for her dress – something elegant with long, off the shoulder sleeves – Lois found all her dreams realised within the rails at hugely established Newcastle boutique, and Belle Bridal Guest List and signature stockist, Brides Dream.

Denita by Ronald Joyce was her gown of choice, having three fittings to customise it to perfection and it’s fair to say it fit her like a glove.

Q&A

How did you feel as you walked down the aisle?

Honestly? Just completely overcome with emotion! As soon as I saw Greg standing there I wanted to cry a river of happy tears.

Out of 10, how involved was your partner in the planning process? (answer honestly!)

A generous 4! He did a cracking job with the daytime playlists.

FIRST DANCE NOTES: Gyptian, Hold You

Funniest memory from the day?

During a toast from Greg’s best friend before our first dance, I turned around to see my Aunty stood up and flapping her scarf around. She’d actually set her scarf on fire from a candle and had been trying to put it out. I just thought someone was making toast!

TRADITIONS ARE GREAT, BUT DON’T BE AFRAID TO REINVENT THE RULES AND MAKE IT YOUR OWN. IT IS YOUR DAY, MAKE SURE IT REFLECTS YOU AS A COUPLE.
