Although Rebecca and Stephen have travelled the world together, there was only one destination where they wanted to host their wedding and that was at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa, in Windermere.
“We wanted somewhere that was on Lake Windermere and when we viewed the space with Gemma Jeffery, our amazing wedding coordinator, we immediately fell in love. We loved the Windermere room, with its big windows and views onto the lake. We were excited by the fact we could have a boat ride for our guests on the lake (which we kept as a surprise until the big day!). We had a gorgeous summers day, which meant we were able to have the drinks reception outside on the lawn overlooking the lake, but we knew even if it had been a rainy day there were beautiful rooms indoors too – this was a big plus when choosing the venue. I would definitely recommend Low Wood to future brides. The staff are incredible and Gemma was fantastic at taking the pressure off us as she was so helpful and nothing was too much trouble for her and the team. We knew from our first meeting that we were in a safe pair of hands.”
“It was important that the venue was in the lakes as we are both from Cumbria and we love how beautiful the lakes are and it was the perfect venue for family from home but also for friends who had never visited the lakes.”
“We wanted a fun day filled with love and laughter and all the special people in our lives celebrating with us. The table names were named after places we’ve visited around the world and we wanted a 50s band in the evening to get everyone rockin’ and rollin! We wanted a few intimate touches and so had one of our closest friends singing at the ceremony and some family and friends doing readings. We wanted the wedding to incorporate a lot of the things that mean something to us – family, friends, travelling, music and love. We just wanted all our friends and family to be happy.”
Rebecca looked absolutely stunning in her Charlie Brear wedding gown from Mia Bridal. “I really enjoyed the whole experience. I took my Mum with me and it was a great thing to do together. Mia Bridal was the first shop I went to. Although it looks like a dress it is actually in two parts! I instantly loved the Charlie Bear Canya Skirt and it was actually the first one I tried on and I just knew it was the one for me. I loved how unique it was and the 3D effect flowers that are really intricate and beautiful. Sarah, at Mia Bridal, is also a seamstress and created the top half of my dress – it was so special to have something bespoke created. We worked together on the design and I knew I wanted it to have a low back. We took some flowers from the bottom of the skirt, as it was too long, and placed them on the top to bring the whole outfit together. Sarah is extremely talented and the nicest person ever!”
How did you choose your photographer?
“My dressmaker recommended Camilla and as soon as we saw her work and met her we knew she was the one! She made us feel instantly comfortable and her photography style and skills are incredible – we felt lucky to have her!”
Advice for other brides and grooms?
“Enjoy the experience! Don’t lose sight of what the day is about – celebrating your love for each other. The day goes so quickly so try to take a moment for yourselves. I know it sounds cheesy but it really is true when they say it’s the best day of your life.”
What was your highlight of the day?
“The whole day was fantastic and filled with lots of amazing memories but the moment when we became husband and wife was the biggest highlight of the day.”
