Family and friends gathered at the Aykley Heads, in Durham, followed by the Stadium of Light, in Sunderland, for Michael and Charlotte’s big day. Captured by GASP Photo Co, this couple hosted the perfect relaxed and laid-back celebration.
“We wanted a late afternoon wedding, we looked at local registry offices and fell in love with the building at Aykley Heads, which is beautiful both inside and out. As for the stadium, Mike has been a lifelong fan and season ticket holder of the club, so we decided to look at their facilities. We loved The Riverview Brasserie because of its simple, clean lines and it’s own private balcony looking over the industrial landscape and river. We would recommend both venues wholeheartedly.”
The theme for this wedding was just to celebrate everything that Michael and Charlotte loved with their neareast and dearest. “We took inspiration from wedding fayres, magazines and Facebook pages, which included Rock and Roll Bride and Belle Bridal.
“The music for the ceremony and first dance all came from Love Actually which is one of our favourite films.”
How did you choose your photographer?
“Jade (from GASP Photo Co) has taken some great family photos in the past and did a fabulous job of taking photos at my sister’s wedding, so we always wanted it to be her. We knew she was lovely and would be able to do a mix of formal and in the moment pictures with an artistic edge.”
Advice for other brides and grooms when it comes to wedding planning?
“It’s easy to say but try to have fun and enjoy it as much as possible. You might have to make some small compromises but at the end if the day, it’s your wedding and you should do what you want and what suits you as a couple. Doing some things yourself, like making the favours, does take time but it’s really satisfying to know that you’ve created parts of the day that your guests have enjoyed.”
What was your highlight of the day?
“The highlight was having close family and friends there to watch us get married and celebrate. I really loved the balloons and the photobooth. Looking back, we wouldn’t change a thing!”
