The Barn at The South Causey Inn: Melissa and Jay's Rustic Wedding
Melissa & Jay Finlay:
After childhood friends Melissa and Jay reconnected at 23, the whirlwind romance between the pair seen them engaged at just six months in. Planning their rustic barn wedding, the couple made the day entirely their own.
The Theme:
With a “matchy” theme in mind, Melissa and Jay wanted everything to match in colours and theme. Opting for huge eye-catching florals with rustic blue tones and floral bridesmaid dresses, flowers overtook the Finlay wedding, showing off modern and elegant botanics.
The Barn at South Causey:
Deciding on this venue early on in the location search, the Finlay’s were consistent in there when you know you know outlook.
“We loved that it came with such a good package that involved lots of bits so that I didn’t have to use lots of outside vendors. That and the fact it is absolutely beautiful! The Barn has such a rustic but elegant feel as soon as we visited The South Causey we didn’t even want to look at any other venues.”
The service was always excellent any time that we visited prior to the wedding and they would always answer any questions or queries on the phone too. They made me so at ease on the wedding day and everything went without one single fault. It was absolutely amazing there isn’t a single thing I would have changed.”
We asked if the couple would recommend this venue to other couples, their reply?
“I would 1 million per cent recommend the South Causey to others.”
The Dress:
Melissa, being the decisive bride, made her decision quickly and effectively. Having gone to just one bridal shop, WED2BE in Gateshead, Melissa just tried one dress on and knew she’d found the one. The dress was a classic A-line silhouette gown by designer Anna Sorano.
“I had seen the dress online on WED2B and I was generally looking there because I didn’t have to make an appointment. At the time there was still about 20 months to go before the wedding and I thought it was too early but wanted the opportunity to try on some dresses without any pressure. It was the first dress I tried on, it was perfect and I loved it. I tried on a few after in different styles but it always came back to that 1 dress and I was with my mam at the time and she just knew I’d regret it if I didn’t get it. So I picked a veil and all the bits to match and it was done as easy as that.
I’m really glad it was so easy because I imagine not finding “the one” could be quite stressful.”
Quirky Moments:
“My funniest memory from the day is the party at night. Everyone was up dancing and literally having the best time. One of my friends put on an Indian dancing show and it was just absolutely amazing! Everyone was up clapping along, dancing and having the most hilarious time.”
Wedding Day shoutouts:
“The little star of my day was our wedding co-ordinator from the South Causey Inn. Her name was Emma and she was absolutely amazing from start to finish. She helped me with everything, getting ready getting to the venue, she guided me and provided such an excellent service she is an absolute credit to the South Causey.
Katie at The Garden Studio was a real stand out for me. She was amazing, so professional and we really knew she just knew what we wanted and we trusted her so much that she was going to do everything so perfectly and she absolutely did not disappoint. Our flowers were BEAUTIFUL! They were such a huge part of our décor and my bouquet was phenomenal. She really is fantastic at what she does.”
“Dan McCourt was our photographer. He is the most unbelievable photographer and nicest guy. The photos he had taken of other couples were so beautiful and different and we really didn’t want very generic wedding photos. Looking now at what Dan created for us with both our pre-shoot and our wedding day, everything is faultless. I couldn’t recommend Dan enough.”
The Bride's Words:
“My best advice for couples who are planning there day would be:
1: Get a good photographer, everything else you spend your money on will be gone in one day but the photographs are something that you keep forever.
2: Enjoy your day. Take it all in and don’t stress about a thing, it will be the best day of your life and it goes by in a flash.”
