Captured by Kirsty Mattsson Photography, Carly and Ralph tied the knot at The Grange Hotel followed by a relaxed and intimate reception at the De Grey Rooms.
“Overall, we knew we wanted a fairly low-key wedding. We didn’t have a theme as such, we had picked blush pink and gold as our colours and our table names were shows that we had both worked on. Ralph made the table decorations and we had alot help from friends in terms of making things for us. We both don’t like being the centre of attention so we didn’t have a top table or a particularly long ceremony. We wanted it to be kid-friendly having a daughter ourselves, so we had a kids den in the reception room and gave them all a gift box with lots of things to keep them entertained rather than give favours to all of the guests.”
“We fell in love with the De Grey Rooms as soon as we saw them and knew we wanted to have the reception there, particularly as they have a theatrical connection being part of York Theatre Royal. The Grange Hotel seemed like the perfect place to have the ceremony – the beautiful décor and style of the building, the amazing bridal suite and the distance between both venues meant we could have a short walk down to the reception venue. We would definitely recommend both of them to future brides.”
“We initially did an online search for photographers in Yorkshire and loved the natural style of Kirsty’s pictures. After meeting with her we were convinced that she was the right person for us and we knew we could stop looking. Having our photograph taken isn’t something that comes naturally to either of us but our pre-wedding shoot made us feel so much more comfortable on the day. We have had so many comments about how great the pictures are and we couldn’t be happier with them.”
Any advice for future brides and grooms-to-be?
“Don’t worry too much about the finer details, i.e. favours, chair covers. All that matters is that you have the people that you love sharing your day with you. Don’t feel you have to try on lots more dresses if you have found one that you love, it starts to get very confusing! If a pre-wedding shoot is offered by the photographer then definitely do it and get all of the nerves out of the way then.”
