Sophie and James wanted their wedding day to represent them where they could celebrated their love of art, literature and one another. Captured by Paul Joseph Photography, this couple hosted their day at The Tetley, a venue that suited Sophie and James down to a tee.
“We’re both into reading and art and I’m a big fan of anything crafty so we wanted to pick a venue and theme that really matched. We wanted a relaxed celebration with all our favourite people around us. Sophie’s mum was a huge part in bringing it to life and a massive help in helping us to plan. The main theme was reading and books; we had Penguin book invites, tables named after our favourite authors, themed cocktails and a cake to match!”
“DIY details were a huge part of the day. Right from the start we wanted the wedding to have a DIY feel – Sophie is a screen printer so printed our own invites in the style of Penguin books. The venue was filled with handmade decorations – from succulents in books, through to book folded decorations and handmade bunting. My Mum is a very talented lady and made nearly all of the decorations herself by hand! She also made our wedding cake and was given the theme of books – she created a great cake made up of three different cakes! She took some photos of our bookshelf and got the photo printed on to icing around the edge too! The cake was finished off with a pair of Penguins under a book arch, designed to match the Penguin Classics book theme.”
“One of our favourite touches on the day was our homemade Polaroid guestbook board – every guest had a tag that they needed to replace with a Polaroid photo of themselves on the board. Everyone had a photo taken and filled in the guest book!”
“We wanted a venue that really represented the things we’re interested in – mainly good food, beer and art! The Tetley is an old brewery that has been renovated and made into a restaurant, bar and gallery – as we’re both city people we wanted somewhere in the centre of Leeds that reflected that. The Tetley was perfect and they were so helpful – Charlotte in particular was a pleasure to work with! Guests were offered tours of The Tetley, which was a really nice touch from the venue. For the evening we had the whole of the bar and outside area and had a band and music all night long. We would absolutely recommend The Tetley for anyone looking for something a bit different. They were a dream to work with from start to finish!”
“Photography was one of the most important things to us on our wedding day. We found Paul Joseph Photography after doing a bit of research online and we’re so pleased we booked them! Paul and Kelly’s photos were perfect and they took the perfect amount of planned/ more natural photos. They knew exactly when to time it to get the best shot and even managed to make our slightly unpolished first dance look great in the photos! They came to check out the venue with us beforehand to scout out the best places to have a photo taken. Paul and Kelly are lovely people to have around and we’re still friends with them two years on!”
Advice for other brides and grooms when it comes to wedding planning?
“Take some time out to get some photos just the two of you – it’s nice to get a bit of time to chat together as you’ll get whisked off in so many directions with so many people to see! Lots of people don’t have posed photos and we were considering this – but when the photos came back we were so pleased that we did. Paul and Kelly asked us to come outside in the ‘golden hour’ as an unplanned part of the day and we’re so pleased we did as this is when we got some of the best shots.”
What was your highlight of the day?
“They say when you get married it’ll be the best day of your life – and it really was! Every part of the day was incredible from the start getting ready with our best friends, to getting married, through to dancing with my family and friends all night. If we had to pick one thing we’d have to say a memorable moment was spending time on the roof of The Tetley getting our photographs taken – we had such an amazing view over the city and got to take time out the two of us to reflect on how amazing the day was!”
